Richard is an exceptionally experienced and highly accomplished English teacher, with qualifications including a PGCE, MA in Education, NPQSL and CELTA, alongside a BA Combined Honours degree. He is a former Headteacher, Head of English, and Director of Humanities, and currently teaches GCSE and A-Level English at Denstone College. His extensive leadership experience means he has a deep understanding of both academic success and how to support students to reach their full potential.

Richard is also an examiner for AQA GCSE English Literature, giving him precise insight into how exam responses are assessed and what is required to achieve the highest grades. He understands exactly how to move students from basic responses to sophisticated, high-mark answers.

His lessons are structured around a clear learning journey, often guided by a key question that is explored and answered throughout the session. Using a Connect, Activate, Demonstrate and Consolidate approach, Richard ensures students build knowledge, apply it effectively and retain it with confidence, while remaining flexible to each student’s pace and needs.
